How long have you been skating and competing? - Started recreational skating in mid-nineties then skated for the first time with others (who knew how to skate) around 2001. Transitioned to speed skates around 2001 and have been spending all my time since trying to un-learn all my bad habits. About the same time started skating at races: it gave me a fun goal for improving my skating the rest of the time. What is your favorite skate race? - “Race?”: I guess I can’t say A2A then. Napa then: beautiful course, friendly event, great fun going to wineries afterward. What activity do you like in the off season? - San Diego: what off-season? Alternative activities…not much these days but do enjoy yoga and have spent time working with strength trainer. Hiking, climbing and working with hands (construction) seem to keep me pretty active. What is your favorite book or leisure
activity? - Love
movies and books. I tend to prefer
science fiction for recreational reading, natural science and technical manuals
for non-fiction, classic literature for audio books; all of which I need to
meter out to avoid doing nothing but reading. Movies: enjoy the latest and
greatest Hollywood dishes out and the odd, foreign and artsy flicks that
require me to read the bottom to understand what’s being said. It’s all visual,
it’s all good. Married, single, children, brothers, sisters? - Separated and in a relationship (i.e., ‘it’s complicated’), and yet, in an odd “California” way, it’s warmly supportive in all directions. I’ve four younger brothers (I’m the only without kids), two sets of parents and still one grandparent (Born in 1914). Hopefully I have her genes. Where were you born and where do you live now? - Born in New Jersey while mom came to visit dad on business trip but ‘residence’ for the first three years was in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Today, and for the past ~17 years, has been in San Diego, CA, has been home, and home of mild sunny weather. This has been a great place to roll on skates. |
